Information Technology in Business Course No: GBAT9115

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the business context within which IT is utilised by considering the nature of work in business and business systems. This is achieved by investigating the major uses of IT in the business contexts of working with knowledge, making decisions, planning, operational or management support systems, e-commerce and e-business and Integrating IT and ERP systems. The course also considers security and information resources as well as trends in information systems and technology. Information Technology in Business is a recommended starting course for new students.

Ken Stevens
B Fin Admin (UNE), MComm (UNSW)

Ken is a lecturer in the School of Information Systems, Technology and Management and teaches UNSW Masters of Commerce, Masters of Information Systems and Masters of Business Technology courses in Information Systems Management, E-business Management and IT Project Management. Ken has a MComm (Information Systems) from UNSW and is currently working towards a PhD investigating risk management practices in IT development projects. Apart from his doctoral work, Ken’s other key research interests include strategic management of IT.

Prior to joining academe, Ken worked in business systems consulting for both large and small consulting houses. His consulting work involved a diverse client base including manufacturers, wholesalers and financial institutions, in a wide range of projects including systems selection, systems implementation and systems management. Before systems consulting, he was an accountant and auditor with Price Waterhouse. Ken is a Chartered Accountant.
