Quantitative Methods for Business Decision Making Course No: GBAT9128

This course aims to enable managers to be effective users of statistical reports in the workplace and to understand statistical arguments. Practical experience in statistics will be provided, and on completion students will be able to critically assess statistical analysis undertaken in their workplace, including such areas as managing and forecasting performance. 

Technical Requirements: this course requires the use of Microsoft Excel and an Excel add-in, StatToolsTM, to perform statistical calculations.  StatToolsTM is supplied with your Study Guide however students are required to provide their own copy of Excel.  At the time of writing, there was no StatToolsTM version for Apple Macintosh.


Quantitative Methods for Business Decision Making will be offered for the first time in 2010.

Dr Paul Walsh
BSC (Hons) (Wollongong), PhD (Newcastle)

Paul was a former Senior Lecturer at the Australian Graduate School of Management and is now an adjunct faculty member teaching in their MBA (Executive). Paul was course leader for the AGSM MBA Data Analysis & Statistical Modelling course in 2005 and 2009. Paul now has his own consulting business. Paul has a Ph.D. in applied statistics. He also teaches Statistical Analysis for Managers and Business Process Management in the AGSM Hong Kong MBA program. He has consulted widely in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.
His research and consulting interests are in strategy deployment, performance measurement and Lean Six Sigma.
His book The Measurement and Management of Strategic Change: A Guide to Enterprise Performance Management is published by Pearson Education Australia (2005).
Paul is also the Program Director for the Balanced Scorecard and Lean Six Sigma practices at AGSM Executive Programs. He has developed and presented numerous courses on key performance indicators for CPA Australia.
