Advice on course selection
The MBT Program strongly advises new students to commence with
one course in your first Semester. For students commencing at the Graduate Certificate level (program 7333) it is compulsory to enrol in the core course GBAT9100 Introduction to Management as your first course.
Following this core, and for those commencing at the Masters level (program 8616) the choice of courses, and the order in which they are taken, is
not prescribed, however participants are advised to plan their program
in consultation with Student Support. A recommendation is that you
commence with business or technology-specific courses, or a selection
of each, before progressing to more integrative courses and then
concluding with at least one of the two capstone courses. The MBT
Courses page lists the recommended starting courses.
View the Program Planning and
MBT Course pages for more information,
and call MBT Student Support to discuss your selection if you have
any questions or concerns.
Should you wish to select courses from outside the MBT course offering,
please contact the MBT Student Support team to obtain approval that
the course can be counted towards your MBT degree.
MBT Program Planner
This online tool enables you to select
from a list of professional competencies
and see a list of courses as a result which
have content addressing/covering those competencies
in the course materials. It is intended
to guide you in mapping your individual
path through MBT’s very flexible structure.
You can print or email the plan, and can
use the planner at any time during the learning
path as your specific learning needs change.
You will need Macromedia Flash Player to
use the MBT Program Planner tool, if you
don't have Flash simply download it from
the Macromedia
site download page (880kb file size
download).
Launch the
(requires flash plugin - see
info above)
Identify which course/s you wish to take. To assist you in making
your course selection, review the information available on the
Current Semesters page
such as course outlines, timetables, course plans ( to see what’s
running in the future) and assessment plans to show you when the
assessments are due.
Please note that we strongly recommend that you only take one
course in your first Semester to allow you time to adjust to the
MBT learning style and pace. This is especially so if you are
entering at the Graduate Certificate level.
Step 2 – Getting ready to accept your offer
First you need to create a zPass.
Please Note: If you have been a student at UNSW previously, please
use your existing UniPass and log In to myUNSW to accept your
offer. Contact the IT Service Desk on +61 2 9385 1777 or servicedesk@unsw.edu.au
if you have any enquiries regarding your UniPass.
Your Login ID is a lowercase 'z' followed by your UNSW Student ID
(e.g. z3140000)
Your UniPass is the same password you previously created
Enter your details then click the Log In button.
ii. Click on to the My Applications Tab.
iii. Scroll down to the My Offers channel.
If you have a valid offer, you will see a Proceed with Offer
Process button. Click this button. If you believe you have a valid
offer and do not see the Proceed with Offer Process button, please
contact the MBT office.
iv. You should
then be taken to the Welcome Page of the Accept Online process.
On the left-hand side of the page, you will see the steps you
need to take in order to complete the Accept Online process. You
will see a tick beside each step once it has been completed. Please
Note: You need to complete ALL the steps as ticked below in order
to have accepted your offer and enrolled at UNSW.
There will be an option for you to "Update your Address"
and please make sure that you enter a correct address.
v. Enrol in a class
TIP: it is much
easier to first select the course and course code from the relevant
Semester in the Courses/Timetables
section on the MBT site, rather than searching on the myUNSW website.
Print out these two guides and have them to hand as you work through
the enrolment process.
If you have problems at any stage please
contact MBT Student Services.
What we send you
A New Student Pack will be sent to you after you
accept your offer, containing the
MBT Participant Information Guide. These are also available electronically from
the Forms & Guides section of
the MBT student site. A timeline providing specific dates for the
events and processes detailed on this page is included in the New
Student Pack.
A Class Confirmation email will be sent to you
approx four weeks before the start of Semester containing details
of your Class Number and your Facilitator's name and contact details.
Please keep it as a reference throughout the Semester.
A zPass needs to be created by new participants. This is a highly
sensitive password that is used to access all UNSW online resources,
including your MBT Online Class. Your zPass is also used to redirect
your student email account, check your personal details and access
your results at the end of Semester. Go to https://idm.unsw.edu.au
A Student ID card will also be mailed approximately
two weeks after the start of Semester. Distance participants can
use it as proof of enrolment if applying for Interlibrary borrowing
rights at local academic libraries, and on-campus participants can
use it to access UNSW Library resources.
Important: UNSW does NOT post out hardcopy fees statements. You
must log into myUNSW to access your Tuition Fees Statement
approximately two weeks before the start of Semester. You can log
on to view your fees statement and follow the links to make your
payment by BPay, ANZ eGate. You can also pay in person at any Australia
Post branch. Fees are due to be paid by the end of the first week
of Semester.
1. VITAL FIRST STEP: ACCEPT UNSW TERMS AND CONDITIONS
All new students at UNSW MUST first accept
the 'Rules Relating to Student Use of Computing and Electronic
Communications Facilities', before you will be able to redirect
your student email, log into the myUNSW site or access your Blackboard Class.
Read the conditions carefully, and, if you agree, click on the 'I
understand and accept the conditions' button at the end of the page.
You will then be asked to enter your 'User Name' (student number
preceded by a 'z') and 'Password' (zPass) so that your acceptance
of these conditions can be logged. Once your acceptance has been
logged, you will be permitted to redirect your email, as described
above. The conditions can be accepted only once, and subsequent
attempts to accept the conditions will generate authorisation failures.
2. FORWARD YOUR STUDENT EMAIL
All UNSW MBT email correspondence will be sent to your student email
account, this includes fee information, results notifications, MBT
notifications and online class digests. You can test your redirection
by sending yourself an email to your student account and making
sure it comes through to your nominated email account.
Please be sure to keep us in mind should there be any changes in
your situation. If you let us (both MBT and your facilitator) know
early, then we should be able to help you, however, if you leave
it to the last minute then we can only do so much.
Bookmark the MBT Student website and check it regularly as the homepage
is updated with new information and important reminders each week.
5. LOG INTO YOUR ONLINE CLASS 1 WEEK PRIOR TO START OF SEMESTER
All MBT Classes are supported by an Online Class. The Online
Classes page is linked from the top navigation bar throughout
the MBT Student website. For face-to-face classes this is for more
informal interaction between your weekly class, and for posting
additional information. For distance classes this is the forum for
all your weekly interaction. Access to your Online Class opens one
week prior to the start of Semester. You should log in to your Class
before the start of Semester to familiarise yourself with the layout,
and post some information in the Gallery section to share some background
and your reasons for studying the course with fellow participants.
6. STUDY GUIDES AND TEXTBOOKS
STUDY GUIDE:
Study Guide CDs will be automatically posted to the mailing address you have listed at myUNSW two weeks prior to the start of each Semester.
Please note that mailing address data is downloaded four weeks prior to Semester start so if you need to change your postal address within four weeks of the start of Semester, contact the MBT office to check the status of your delivery.
In addition to the CD-ROM supplied, MBT Study Guides are also available in two other formats:
1. Print version can be purchased from the UNSW Bookshop MBT Textbook site at cost price, plus delivery. There is no GST on course materials.

are responsible for obtaining the required textbooks prior to
the commencement of the relevant Semester. The Current and Future
Semester pages will list the textbooks for that Semester, he
course overview in your study guide will also contain information
on required textbooks.
Purchasing Textbooks via the UNSW Bookshop
There is no obligation for students to purchase these from the
UNSW Bookshop, many of the prescribed textbooks are also available
from other bookshops, however please take care that you purchase
the correct edition.
Textbooks can be purchased either on campus or online. The
UNSW Bookshop will arrange the delivery of the books anywhere
in the world. Payment online is usually by credit card, although
other alternatives are available. For full purchasing and delivery
information please check the UNSW Bookshop website. UNSW students
receive a 10% discount on the recommended retail price of all
textbooks purchased through the Bookshop.
7. MAKE YOUR FEES PAYMENT
You should pay your Fees by the end of the first week of Semester.
Remember - UNSW does NOT post out hardcopy fees statements.
You must log into myUNSW to access your Tuition Fees Statement
approximately two weeks before the start of Semester. You can log
on to view your fees statement and follow the links to make your
payment by BPay, ANZ eGate. You can also pay in person at any Australia
Post branch. Fees are due to be paid by the end of the first week
of Semester.

department and respond to you with their answer.
